Let us, the Bewahren Ferienhaus eG, introduce ourselves

In July 2009, six friends got together with one aim: buying the stunning, historic water tower, atop a hill in Waren, and transforming it into holiday apartments. Subsequently, they founded the BEWAHREN Ferienhaus eG. Just 6 months later, the cooperative and its charter was entered in the commercial register of the Berlin-Charlottenburg district court under the number GnR 685B.

Our passion for this very special property was infectious, so more and more like-minded people signed up to the cooperative. Today, there are over 50 members, and we’re thrilled each and every time someone new joins us. In addition to caring for and sharing the Wasserturm, it is our goal to preserve other, equally special buildings. Preferrably, they should be located by the sea and/or in the mountains and should be fit for holiday apartments, too.

In the pictures below, you can get a feel for some of the work we do as members, as well as having a glimpse of the work done during the Wasserturm’s renovation. Twice a year—in spring and autumn—is a voluntary member’s weekend, where some of our cooperative members set to work together to make the tower even better.

In addition, the cooperative regularly participates on Open Monument Day (Tag des offenen Denkmals), often with an accompanying cultural programme. Open Monument Day takes place annually on the second Sunday in September. It is a good opportunity, especially for (as yet) non-members, to explore the entire tower with a guided tour. Also, you can meet some of our cooperative members in person.
